According to Shantanu & Nikhil, Design is a sensibility that has to be delicately played with to create a balance between the eyes and the mind. It is a feeling, a sensation that comes from within. Style to us is the body and it talks to you the expression that your mind has created to complete the body
The spiritual and cultural resonances of Banaras have inspired this collection which symbolizes the months of spring and summer; months of renewal and regeneration. The exuberance of the festivals and the busy life of the riverfront of this city have added to the subliminal idiom of the ensembles created.
The strong influence of this ancient city's culture, juxtaposed with elements of natural fabrics and contemporary silhouettes exude the confluence of a global woman, entrenched in a historic perspective. The rich heritage and artistic text of the city is intermingled with the sundappled waters of the river that flows through it. This collection attempts to catch nuances of that in a colour palette which is predominant with off whites and yellows, reflecting the essence of the visual impact of the city.
The silhouettes are semi-structured with a freedom of thought and expression that beats at the heart of Banaras. The understated and elemental aspect of the city finds its way in the ensembles that pick up the luminosity associated with this Holy Place. The emphasis has been on texturisation and the printing on fabric. The aim has been to create moods of indulgence and splendour. Satin fabrics create the luxury of thought and the shimmering air of the ethereal city. Handlooms have been extensively used to give a structure to the building blocks that compose it. Many fabrics blend two worlds; with blends of silks and cottons, or the use of khadi silks. Block printing completes the circle.
