DESIGNER : Prashant and Sudha
Ho-hum
Mumbai-based duo Prashant & Sudha showcased a predictable collection of ensembles. Overtly ruched features on the chest and waist gave way to almost-bare bottom wear. The ornate embroidery, pleats, plaids, plaits and heaps of semi-precious stones, twisted textiles and ornamentation – it was all too crowded. The gowns, kurtis and dresses were pretty but there was no designer element to them. Everything seemed very top-heavy and bottom-flat. There was no balance in the design.

DESIGNER : Deepti Reddy and Neha Poddar
Hyderabad and Kolkata calling
Hyderabad-based Deepti Reddy’s collection incorporated Nizamesque semi-precious ornamentation on saris, blouses, achkans, kurta-churidars and salwar kameezes. Her sari blouses were well-structured, sensually crafted and ornate without being too in-your-face. Deepti uses organzas, raw silk and loads of appliqué work - the textures lend grandeur without being overwhelming. Circular patterns and floral muted gold motifs were predominant. The show stealer was a multi-layered choker sari blouse, a series of U-shaped chains that stop at the nape of the neck.

Kolkata-based Neha Poddar’s collection incorporated shades of plum, purple, muted green, grey, black and cobalt blue in in all sorts of permutations and combinations.

She incorporated the padded shoulder in her dresses, which bordered between eclectic couture and prêt. Quilted flaps on shoulders, shirt dresses, hoodie style shoulder wraps in embroidered organza were some other items she showed, including a cutaway salwar kameez with several flaps, and a lurexx-inspired dress. A one-piece crystal-embellished dress was the highlight of the collection.
