Summer of 1999, Sabyasachi Mukherjee graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, India with three major awards. Four months later, Sabyasachi started his eponymous label.
His significant achievements included earning a retail place at "Browns", the tiny London store voted by Vogue as the best shopping destination in the world.
He forayed into films by designing costumes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's landmark film: "Black" which earned him rave reviews and also the national award for costume designer for a feature film in 2005. Since then, he has designed the costumes for films like "Baabul" and "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag". He is currently working on the costumes for Mani Ratnam's film - "Raavan".
His label sells worldwide in territories ranging from Moscow to Hong Kong. He showcased his collections at the New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 07, 08 and 09 and received immense praise and appreciation. His "Sanctuary" collection showcased at Lakme Fashion Week Fall Winter 08, received positive reviews from Ms Suzy Menkes, Fashion Editor of the "International Herald Tribune". In September 2008, he designed a jewelry line in association with GAJA.
